Dr. Michael J. Wargo, age 61 of Alexandria, VA, passed away in his home on Sunday, August 4, 2013.  Born in McKeesport of September 14, 1951, he was the son of the late John J. and Margaret (Maksin) Wargo.  Michael was a graduate of St. Joseph's School in Clairton and Clairton High School, and he received a Bachelor of Science in Earth and Planetary Sciences and a Doctor of Science in Materials Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  Afterwards, he both taught and performed research at MIT before joining NASA in Washington, DC.  Michael served as Chief Exploration Scientist for NASA's Human Exploration and Operations Missions and was a leading contributor to NASA's human lunar and planetary exploration program. In his nearly two-decade career at NASA, he received numerous awards, including NASA's Exceptional Service Medal and seven group achievement awards.  Michael is survived by his wife Adele Morrissette of New York City; brothers Dr. John J. Wargo of Clairton, J. David Wargo (Mary Trezza) of New York City, and Robert T. Wargo of Clairton; and also nieces and many beloved cousins.  Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 10AM in St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Clairton. Burial will follow in Ascension Cemetery, Clairton.  Memorial contributions in Dr. Wargo's name may be made to the MIT Department of Materials Science Endowed Fellowship Fund by contacting Bonny Kellerman via email at bonnyk@mit.edu or by phone at 617-253-9722.  Local arrangements by the A.J.
